Hi, thank you for the interest you show in our software!
I recommend watching this demo video: http://smartshow-software.com/how-to-ma … ffects.php - it shows all the things you can do with video clips in SmartSHOW 3D.
Anyway, here are the answers to your questions:

is it slow as Proshow?

It all depends on how long your video clip is I guess, as well as from lots of other factors such as your computer system performance.

Is it possible to separate audio from the video track and manage the volume curve?

Is it possible to speed-up the video?

Not in the current version I'm afraid.

Is it possible to easily set the start point and ending point of a video?

Yes, that's totally easy (the Cut option is shown in video demo above)

Does this software allow to import MP4 files without problems?

Sure, just as any other common video format.

I would like to test the software, but is impossible if the video-import feature is missing. What I would like to test is the capability of this software to manage videos: is it slow as Proshow? Is it possible to separate audio from the video track and manage the volume curve? Is it possible to speed-up the video? Is it possible to easily set the start point and ending point of a video? Does this software allow to import MP4 files without problems? Thank you
