Remember software compatibility problems  may still occur between different OS such as you have mentioned for programing, however data is no problem at all.

Radio Shack has a cable transfer that I use . Simple to use just hook firewire to both computers and a screen shows both operating systems then you click and drag programs or files to new computer.

If you still have this along with your license code, then it should be easy to install it on your new machine!
